The executive committee (EC) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on July 25 has taken a decision to reconstitute the Khasi Traditional Medicine Commission and inaugurate the Khasi Traditional Medicine Institute.
Chief Executive Member of the KHADC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, said that the reason for reconstituting the Khasi Traditional Medicine Commission was because the present chairman was the former CEM of the KHADC.
“The present chairman is the former CEM. Hence, it is necessary to reconstitute the commission,” said Syiem.
He added that the EC has taken a decision to appoint the sitting CEM of the KHADC as the chairman of the Khasi Traditional Medicine Commission. This is to start the screening of applications before distributing certificates to all Khasi Traditional medicine practitioners.
Syiem also said that the EC has taken a decision to inaugurate the Khasi Traditional Medicine Institute at Lum Sohpetbneng Ri-bhoi district.
“The work at the Khasi Traditional Medicine Institute at Lum Sohpetbneng Rui-bhoi district is in full swing and almost completed except for some sanitation work, water supply and quarter for guard,” said Syiem.
He added that soon the district council will call for expression of interest (EOI) from different institutes from the state and outside the state who specialize in herbal treatment to run the Khasi Traditional Medicine Institute at Lum Sohpetbneng Rii-bhoi district.
“The council will also write to the state government to set up a laboratory at the Khasi Traditional Medicine Institute at Lum Sohpetbneng Rui-bhoi district,” he added.
