Ardent blames MDA for state’s worst performance

SHILLONG

The president of Voice of the People Party (VPP), Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit on August 30 lambasted the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government for making the state one of the worst performers in the country.

Speaking at the induction ceremony of new members into the VPP in North Shillong constituency, Basaiawmoit quoted the NITI Aayog report which stated that Meghalaya was the worst performer in education, in health index too the state has failed, and it is one among the five poor states in the country.

He also clarified to the gathering the reasons why he decided to form a new party.

“We did not form this party to make money. But we formed the party to tell the people we have a vision for the state and its people,” the VPP chief said.

Basaiawmoit also said that the party was formed on two principles – clean politics.

“Through clean politics we can bring about development and secure future for the indigenous people of the state,” he added.

He said that apart from the VPP no other party are promising clean politics.

He also said that the VPP stands on the principle to protect the rights of the indigenous people.

Basaiawmoit also said that the state has potential to be economically vibrant only if its potential like natural beauty, minerals and water resources are tapped.

The VPP chief also said that he left the United Democratic Party (UDP) and later on the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) since these parties deviated from their ideologies.

“It better for me to shift from one party to another rather than compromise on my principles,” he said.
