Assam: Congress announces 12 candidates name for Lok Sabha elections

Guwahati, Mar 12: The Congress have announced 12 candidates name for the Lok Sabha polls in Assam on Tuesday. After the announcement of the candidates name, the speculations over distribution of party tickets for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections comes to an end.

Senior Congress leader and deputy leader of the Congress party in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi will contest from the Jorhat seat.

The Congress has announced candidates for: Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Barpeta, Darrang-Udalguri, Guwahati, Diphu, Karimganj, Silchar, Nagaon, Kaziranga, Sonitpur and Jorhat Lok Sabha seats in Assam.

Former Assam forest minister and sitting MLA Rakibul Hussain will contest on Congress ticket from Dhubri constituency, in an expected straight fight with AIUDF chief and sitting MP Badruddin Ajmal.

Among the big names from the Assam Congress to have been given party tickets to contest the Lok Sabha elections are: Gaurav Gogoi from Jorhat, Pradyut Bordoloi from Nagaon, Rakibul Hussain from Dhubri and Mira Barthakur Goswami from Guwahati.

Sitting MP from Barpeta seat, Abdul Khaleque has been denied party ticket for the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Congress has left only one seat for its alliance partner is Dibrugarh from where AJP’s Lurinjyoti Gogoi will contest.

On the other hand, the name of candidate for Lakhimpur is on hold.
