NESO members from Garo Hills burn CAA copies to register protest

Tura, March 13: The implications from the central government’s decision to implement the Citizens Amendment Act across the country has had far reaching effect with protests taking place in different areas including neighbouring Assam which has had a long history of conflict over immigration.

Joining hands with their counterparts- the North East Students’ Union, the Garo Hills members of NESO, namely the Garo Students Union also staged a protest near the Tura NEHU campus, to register a ste9ng protest.

Leaders of the GSU tore copies of the CAA and set it on fire to express their opposition to the implementstion of the act in the northeast.

“Despite widespread opposition to CAA by all the student bodies of the North East, the centre has gone ahead and enforced it. We strongly resent that and decided to burn its copies,” said NESO assistant general secretary and former GSU secretary Manseng A Sangma.

The students also shouted anti CAA slogans during the protest.
