Assam: Man arrested for duping Grade III/IV recruitment exam candidates

The bank account number into which he asked the candidates to deposit the money is maintained at Union Bank of India, Bangalore, branch.

GUWAHATI:

Sleuths of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police arrested a man identified as Ali Hussain for duping candidates appearing in Assam government Grade III/IV recruitment exam which is slated to be held shortly.

“The accused had created a WhatsApp group by name Grade III/IV Examination Help Group, using mobile number 8099775729 and had circulated the message that the question papers for the exams will be shared one day before the examination to those who deposit money,” an official statement of Assam Police said.

Police said that the administrator of the group, Hussain, is a resident of Jamira Part 4 under Ramnathpur police station in Hailakandi district.

As per the statement the accused had fraudulently and dishonestly opened the WhatsApp group and had been sending messages to various other individuals and groups.

In this connection, the CID had registered case No 12/2-22 under sections 120B, 406, 419, 420, 468 and 471 of IPC and section 660 of IT Act.

Police said that the location and mobile number were traced and the accused was arrested with the help of Hailakandi police. The bank account number into which he asked the candidates to deposit the money is maintained at Union Bank of India, Bangalore, branch.

According to the police, the account statement has been analysed, and  those who have deposited money are being interrogated. The account has been frozen.

“Interrogation revealed that he was not connected with any authority in SEBA or the government. He started this group to lure innocent candidates to fraudulently make easy money.

Correspondence with Whatsapp also has been taken up by the CID. The prospective candidate who had joined the Whatsapp group and corresponded with the accused are also being summoned for interrogation, the statement said.
