GUWAHATI:

A Bangladeshi cattle smuggler was gunned down by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam South Salmara-Mankachar district on February 13.

According to BSF officials, the deceased identified as Faridul Islam, was shot at while trying to flee from the BSF jawans after he was caught trespassing the border fence for smuggling cattle.

BSF informed that the person got injured in the firing, and they tried to save him, but he succumbed to his injuries later on

“Our jawans noticed few people trying to smuggle cattle with the help of a bamboo crane over the border fencing in the morning. Upon being questioned, they tried to flee from the spot, after which our jawans opened fire,” BSF DIG JC Nayak said.

Nayak informed that three cows and some sharp weapons were also recovered from the spot.

Notably, cattle trade has been going on unabated along the international border even as the BSF has arrested several dozens of smugglers and recovered cattle heads in the last two years, the BSF DIG informed.
