Bernard accuses CM of using YESS funds for strengthening NPP youth wing

Bernard Marak said the NPP youths have been asked to form clubs which the administration helped to register on January 8, and to open an account particularly in the rural bank where an amount of Rs 1,00,000/- will be given before the code of conduct is imposed.

SHILLONG:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak has accused chief minister Conrad K Sangma of using the YESS fund to strengthen his youth wing.

“In Garo Hills, genuine youths are deprived of Rs 1,00,000/- which was supposed to be given to the youth clubs under YESS for youth engagement through empowered youth organisations, and the same is diverted to the NPP youths,” Marak alleged in a statement on January 9.

He said the NPP youths have been asked to form clubs which the administration helped to register on January 8, and to open an account particularly in the rural bank where an amount of Rs 1,00,000/- will be given before the code of conduct is imposed.

“This money will be used politically to lure votes during the election. Genuine clubs and registered organisations were not informed of this scheme,” he alleged.

Marak further alleged, “It’s a wonder how these NPP clubs got their registration within a day, that too on Saturday? And how are their accounts opened even on Sundays? Normal clubs take weeks to register their clubs and opening an account takes days. Why is Conrad Sangna looting the Centre fund in an inappropriate way?”

He said that the NPP led government deprived the genuine youth groups and registered organisations to facilitate YESS schemes to his youth wings.
