BJP calls CM for debate on corruption

SHILLONG:

The BJP on Thursday said the party would continue with its crusade against corruption in the state and dared Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to a debate on the issue and the need for a CBI probe into it.

“Stop politics, let’s debate on corruption issues and need to do CBI inquiry into various scams raised by BJP. BJP is not in MDA to profit from the scams but to voice against it. Accept the challenge and prove your stand. BJP will not stop raising corruption issues. CM Conrad Sangma should prove publicly why he says “No” to CBI inquiry,” party leader and Tura MDC Bernard Marak said in a statement.

He also went after the coalition partners of the MDA accusing them of looting the poor with their lies.

“Enough of scams, we gave them time to reform but all we see is scams. We want all regional parties and other constituent allies to choose good governance over corruption,” he said.

Marak also accused the NPP of treating the BJP as opposition in Garo Hills. He said he has been treated as opposition in GHADC for winning the chief minister’s seat (in MDC elections).

He also cited the chief minister’s statement that the BJP was  free to withdraw support from the MDA as cheap politics.

“We are ready for the show. Money and power is not everything in politics, good leadership is,” he said.

“Sidelining many MLAs from Garo Hills proves they don’t care for the people of their constituencies. Tura, after BJP winning the MDC seat is targeted by depriving the people of basic needs and creating a fear psychosis through evictions. They should give chance to other MLAs from Garo Hills so that they can provide the basics to their people,” he added.

Stating the party will continue to fight against corruption, Marak said the dangerous trend of “eating away everything like the parasite” should stop. He urged all like-minded parties with progressive and developmental ideologies to come forward to draw a new roadmap for the state and its people.

He said that representatives are voted to power to bring change in their constituencies and the state as a whole, but looting everyone, even the poorest beneficiaries and building their own dynasty is never a part of governance.

He further assured that BJP will not compromise on any important issue and will raise its voice continuously as it has been doing so and said, “The administrative and financial irregularities are a blunt message to the people of the state. Capable leaders are completely sidelined in our state. Meghalaya needs true leaders with vision to solve issues for its people, not businessmen disguised as leaders. It is time to see, money ruined everything we ever voted for. It’s time to rise up against such trends and set the ball rolling for development which is the need of the hour.”
