SHILLONG:
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that there could have been a cent per cent pass percentage but the pandemic circumstances were a hindrance.
The pass percentage this year, 71.62 is less as compared to 2021 when it stood at 75.85 per cent, in 2020 it was 72.24, in 2019 it was 71.07, and in 2018 it was 74.58.
“It is not a question of being satisfied or dissatisfied but I want cent per cent should pass. If I have a choice, cent per cent should pass but looking at the circumstances that unfolded in the last two years, I am grateful that the students performed well,” he said.
He observed that this year’s batch faced a difficult situation as for two years the students did not have regular classes and their minds disturbed by the pandemic.
Rymbui congratulated the students, teachers and parents for the result and for those who failed to get through the examination, he said, “Life does not end with just one result. We should try so that one day we will get through.”
Asked if the state government is planning to have its own state university, he said that there is no such plan or proposal but said if the need arises, the government will do the needful
