BJP leader AL Hek voices concern over delay in candidate announcement

While refraining from making further comments, Hek mentioned that without the meeting by the central leadership being called yet, he cannot provide information on the candidates for the two parliamentary seats from Meghalaya.

SHILLONG:

BJP leader and Cabinet Minister, Alexander Hek Laloo, on Thursday, admitted that the delay in announcing the candidates for Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats will affect the party’s prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to reporters, Hek said the central leadership of the party is yet to even call for a meeting to decide on the party ticket. “Therefore, how we will know who will be the candidates (for the MP),” he said.

“I agree that the delay will have a negative impact on the party but what can we do, we cannot help it until and unless the decision is taken by the central leadership,” he added.

Hek had expressed his readiness to contest from the Shillong parliamentary seat if the party insisted. Apart from him, advocate Finela Lyngdoh Nonglait and former BJP state president Ernest Mawrie have submitted their application for the party ticket.

From Tura, the party MDC of Tura Bernard N Marak is one of the ticket aspirants.
