BJP leadership not aware of TMC MLAs’ merger move: Sanbor

Shullai said that if there was such a political development, Hek should have shared it with the state party leaders when there was a party meeting at the BJP office on Tuesday.

SHILLONG:

BJP legislator Sanbor Shullai, on April 26, said the party leadership has not received any information about the possible merger of the TMC MLAs with the BJP.

Shullai said that if there was such a political development, Hek should have shared it with the state party leaders when there was a party meeting at the BJP office on Tuesday.

“But Hek did not share any information and maybe it was his personal move when he went to have tea with the TMC legislators,” Shullai said.

Shullai said that the state BJP president, Ernest Mawrie, also should be aware if there is such good news that the TMC MLAs would merge with the BJP. However, no such information was received even by the state party president, Shullai said.

Shullai also said that if it was not a personal move of Hek alone, the high command of the BJP in Delhi would have received the information, and the same could have been shared with the BJP leaders in Meghalaya so that some arrangements could be made, either to take the TMC MLAs to Delhi or the Central leaders would come to Shillong to meet the legislators.

The South Shillong MLA further said that since no concrete information was shared by Hek with the party leaders, it appeared that it was his personal initiative where he went to have tea together with them (TMC legislators), which cannot be termed as a move of the BJP to get the TMC MLAs to merge with the party.

“In my office too, many MLAs from various political parties used to come and we had a cup of tea while discussing many things with them. But it does not mean that just by having tea with the MLAs, there is a move for merger,” Shullai stated.

Earlier, Hek had claimed that he met two senior MLAs of the TMC, Charles Pyngrope and Mukul Sangma and discussed with them over a cup of tea regarding the possibility of TMC legislators merging with the BJP.

Hek claimed that the two TMC MLAs did not mind merging with the BJP, but they would first see the political situation.
