BJP’s M Kharkrang dares opponents to public debates

Debunking the perception of BJP being anti-Christians, Kharkrang said this is false and cooked-up propaganda, adding that in many BJP-ruled states like Gujarat, there are many churches.

SHILLONG:

BJP candidate from North Shillong M Kharkrang, on February 4, dared the other candidates to debate on issues concerning the constituency and the state publicly.

Addressing a gathering during an election campaign at Khasi National Dorbar Hall in Mawkhar, the former top cop said, “People should also hear what the candidates have to say.”

Debunking the perception of BJP being anti-Christians, Kharkrang said this is false and cooked-up propaganda, adding that in many BJP-ruled states like Gujarat, there are many churches.

“I will be the first to stand if there are any atrocities against the minorities in the state,” he added.

Stressing the need to “walk the talk” on pressing issues like traffic, the former top cop recalled the time when he was serving as the superintendent of East Khasi Hills – how the discussion on traffic ended only within the four walls of the Asembly building.

“I was an SP for seven years and in the every assembly session, they discussed about short term and long term measures. I used to ask my personal assistant to copy and paste and make a few changes because the content is always the same,” he said.

Referring to the spate of violent and communal incidents in Jaiaw, Kharkrang said, the acts committed by others have defamed the locality.

“The local residents of the area do not support such acts,” he asserted.
