SHILLONG:
BJP spokesperson and party candidate M Kharkrang, on February 16, said that regional parties are only using the other communities during elections.
Speaking to media persons, Kharkrang said that the constitution of the regional parties say they are of indigenous community even as he added their constitution makes it clear that other communities cannot be their members.
According to Kharkrang, their appeal for votes from other communities is in stark contrast with what their constitutions say, stating that in a way, they are using these communities.
“I wonder what makes them feel that they can seek votes from other communities when their constitution itself speaks that they are for indigenous local people only. So during election time you seek votes from the non tribals, but your constitution does not allow non tribals to be members of your organisation, hence its contradicts a lot, and it appears that all other communities are being used for their political interest by these regional parties,” Kharkrang said.
Speaking on the aspect of development and security in North Shillong, he said the area being a commercial hub, thousands of people depend upon it for livelihood, and its is high time that security aspect of the area is looked it.
Replying to the exorbitant Covid expenditure by the government, the BJP candidate without making allegations, said that it is the duty of the government to clarify on the amount spent during Covid.
“People have the right to know on whatever has been spent, let them know as to how the Covid expenditure came to such a huge amount, when other states facing the same problem managed to contain Covid with 1/3 the amount spent by Meghalaya,” Kharkrang questioned.
