Pramod Boro files Rs 100 crore defamation suit against Hagrama

His lawyer and human rights activist Sabda Rabha said, “We have filed a Rs 100 crore civil defamation suit against Hagrama Mohilary for his defamatory statement against Pramod Boro. Mohilary said in a press conference that Pramod Boro had planted the weapons at the house of Hitesh Basumatary which led to his arrest.”

GUWAHATI:

Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Pramod Boro on February 16 filed a Rs 100 crore defamation civil suit against Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) president and former BTC chief Hagrama Mohillary in the court of the District and Session Judge, Kamrup Metro, Guwahati for his alleged defamatory statement against Boro on an arms recovery case.

After the arrest of former BPF MLA Hitesh Basumatary and the recovery of weapons from his residential campus, Mohilary told reports that the consignment of arms has been planted by Pramod Boro at the site of recovery.

“The consignment of arms was kept hidden by Pramod Boro in the place and Hitesh Basumatary was arrested on a false charge,” Mohilary said addressing a press conference at Kazal Gaon in Chirang district on February 10.

Hitesh Basumatary (52) along with two others was arrested for his association with a newly-formed armed outfit on January 7.

Two others who were arrested are: Vikram Daimary, president of Bodoland Contractors Association and Daorao Deshreb Narzary, executive president of the Bodoland Jatiya Suraksha Manch.

An AK-47 and an M16 weapon were also recovered from the residential premises of the former MLA.

“He continually spoke against me. But on February 10 he brought a serious charge against me. He said that I was behind the recovery of unlicensed weapons from Hitesh Basumatary’s house. So I moved the court. He is a responsible person. He should reply it before the court with all the proof,” Pramod Boro told reporters after filing the suit in the court of District and Session Judge, Kamrup Metro, Guwahati.

“It is a defamatory statement of Hagrama Mohilary. Because Pramod Boro has been fighting for peace and the development of the BTC. He took the lead in signing the third Bodo Peace Accord with All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), United Bodo People’s Organisation (UBPO) and four factions of National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) on January 27, 2020,” Rabha also said.

“The court is yet to hear the case. But we filed the petition today,” Rabha added.
