SHILLONG:
War enthusiasts intrigued by the Battle of Kohima in World War II are in for a treat as a book chronicling the decisive battle, is set to hit bookstores this year.
Tentatively titled His Majesty’s Head Hunters, the book will also narrate the story how the capital of Nagaland became the political and administrative headquarters of the British Government.
Authored by Naga poet Mmhonlumo Kikon, the book will explore untold stories of the Battle of Kohima, which is considered as a “turning point of the Japanese U-Go offensive into India” during the Second World War.
Kikon is currently serving as a member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and a national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party. His previous works include two poetry collections – The Penmi Collections (2018) and The Village Empire (2019).
Kikon, in a statement given to a news portal, emphasised on the need of continued dialogue with the past “in the light of our present and be constantly reviewed by revisiting history…”.
The Battle of Kohima, often referred to as the “Stalingrad of the East”, arguably changed the course of the WWII in Asia.
