Boost to Congress as many join party ahead of Assembly polls

They were welcomed into the party fold by Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president Pynshngainlang Syiem.

SHILLONG:

Around 50 workers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) from Pynthorumkhrah on January 27 joined the Congress at the Congress Bhavan.

They were welcomed into the party fold by Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president Pynshngainlang Syiem.

Among those who joined the Congress was Predecessor Rumnong, the NCP candidate in the 2018 assembly polls.

They pledged their support to Syiem who will be contesting from the constituency in the upcoming assembly election.

Syiem hoped that the joining of the BJP and NCP members will help the Congress to go on and win the election.

He said that Pynthorumkhrah has been under AL Hek for 25 years but there is lack of development in the constituency.

“But this time they are in one mind to come and support Congress,” Syiem said.

The Congress candidate from Pynthorumkhrah also said that the constituency is cosmopolitan wherein many communities reside like in Mawsynram – his previous constituency.

“So I will have no problem working for my people in Pynthorumkhrah,” Syiem said.

It may be mentioned that he represented Mawsynram for two terms (2008 to 2018).

Asked how he will defeat a seasoned politician like Hek who has been an MLA for the past 25 years, Syiem said that he has no problem fighting against anyone.

“I should be sincere, I should be serious and I need the love and confidence of my people,” he said.
