SHILLONG:
North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum on November 28 said that the government should come up with a border protection policy to protect Meghalaya’s land.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “Our demand as well as that of people of Mukroh is that the border police outpost should be in Barato as proposed by the government but ensure that it has adequate manpower.”
Nongrum attended the all-party meeting at the secretariat on Monday. He said that the government should protect the land from being encroached by Assam.
He said that the government of Assam should hand over the offenders to Meghalaya, who are involved in the incident so that law will take its course of action.
“Failing, as I am part of the coalition, I will remove myself from the government,” he said.
He said that a member of the bereaved family should be given a government job as he observed that the compensation of Rs 5 lakh is not enough.
