Bridge collapses in WKH due to overloaded dumper truck

The collapse of the bridge has caused inconvenience to the people of the area, forcing them to take long detours to reach their destinations.

NONGSTOIN:

A wooden bridge in Umlipoi village of West Khasi Hills district (WKH) collapsed on July 26 after an overloaded dumper truck carrying sand passed through it.

The bridge connects hundreds of villages in the area through the Nongkasen-Mawkaton-Kynroh Road.

The collapse of the bridge has caused inconvenience to the people of the area, forcing them to take long detours to reach their destinations.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Mawkaton Unit met the ADC of WKHD on July 27, urging the authorities to repair the bridge immediately and take steps to prevent such accidents from happening in the future.

Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police WKHD, has informed that the road from Nongkasen village towards Umlipoi has temporarily been closed, and travellers are advised to take the alternative route through Kynroh village.
