NONGPOH:
The Dorbar Shnong of Umsohma Lailad and Umlyngkdait, New Tasku in the Ri Bhoi district has requested that the PWD department restore the Lailad bridge, which is a crucial lifeline for the residents of Western Ri Bhoi area. The bridge also crosses through Umtrew river.
The bridge has a permissible load of not more than 9 tonnes and is utilised for transportation by the residents of Western Ri Bhoi.
The Rangbah Shnong of Umsohma Lailad, Shmebok Mawphñiang and Edwin Syngkli, Rangbah Shnong Umlyngkdait, New Tasku inspected the condition of the bridge and added that it might put travellers at risk while crossing the bridge.
They also informed that the district administration of Ri Bhoi district and PWD department gave an order to prohibit any movement of vehicles carrying load of more than 9 tonnes but the order is just in paper but not in reality.
Due to its deteriorating condition, the Dorbar Shnong urge the PWD department to take an emergent call for renovation of the bridge with immediate effect to prevent any untoward incident and for the safety of daily local commuters.
