AGARTALA:
A BSF jawan of 122 Battalion took his own life by shooting himself with his service rifle at Gandacherra sub-division of Tripura’s Dhalai district, on February 23.
Identified as R Rengam (37), he was a resident of Tamil Nadu’s Palaiyur district.
According to police, the victim shot himself while on duty at a border outpost around 10 pm.
“The deceased jawan of 122 Battalion was working in BSF’s E-Company. He was on sentry duty last night at a BOP in the CK Bari area, under the Raishyabari police station of the Gandacherra sub-division. But at about 10:10 pm, he shot himself in the neck with his service rifle,” a police official said.
Hearing the sound of gunfire, other jawans rushed to the spot and Rengam was rushed to Raishyabari Primary Health Care where the doctor declared him dead.
