SHILLONG:
Acting on a tip-off, the BSF troops nabbed three persons carrying 1600 kg sugar that was to be smuggled to Bangladesh through the International border of West Jaintia Hills, on Feb 13.
On preliminary enquiry, the apprehended persons revealed that they are residents of Amlarem from where they had loaded sugar in the Bolero Pickup.
The arrested smugglers and seized item were handed over to Customs Dawki for further action.
It may be mentioned that BSF Meghalaya has seized more than two lakh kg of Sugar since last year. Such smuggling attempts of sugar are attributed to higher prices of sugar in Bangladesh. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
