AGARTALA:
The Border Security Force (BSF), on June 19, seized contraband worth Rs 1.19 crore from a train coach at the Kumarghat railway station in Unakoti district of Tripura.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs from an officer at Panisagar, a special operation was launched by the officer and a team of 64 battalion BSF whereby a thorough search of a train from Silchar to Agartala was carried out.
During the search, an abandoned plastic bag containing 239 grams of suspected brown sugar, which has been estimated to cost around Rs 1.19 crore in the international market, was seized. The person who transported the contraband, however, managed to slip away.
In another incident that took place on the same day, the BSF managed to seize 100 Yaba Tablets, 50 bottles of Eskuff Syrup, 29 mobile phones, and rescue seven cattle. The total seizure amounted to Rs 7.73 lakh.
The ‘Special Operations’ are an effort by the BSF to defeat or put a stop to smuggling of narcotics along the Indo-Bangladesh International Border.
