SHILLONG:
The cabinet approved the amendment of the Meghalaya Secretariat Service Rules, 1992, on May 25.
With this amendment, the chief secretary will be the appointing authority for the posts of undersecretary, deputy secretary and joint secretary, said Conrad K Sangma after chairing a cabinet meeting.
Earlier, appointments for the said posts were done by the Governor.
The chief minister also informed that the cabinet has also approved the amendments of the Meghalaya Agriculture Engineering Medical Rules which seek to increase the internal promotions from 25 per cent to 30 per cent. This is in view of the fact that 30 per cent is being followed in other departments of the government.
“Instead of direct recruitment the vacancies will be filled up by the promotions that are there,” he said.
Meanwhile, the state government has also decided to implement the revised All India Council of Technical Education scale for over 32 faculty members of Shillong Polytechnic and others on the transfer to the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education.
This is slightly higher than the state’s scale so the cabinet has taken the decision that these 32 faculty members, who are qualified in terms of the AICTE guidelines, will get the AICTE scale of pay, he added.
