Lamare informed that the main reason for the leakage was the blocking of a pipe on the roof of the building, which has been in that state for many months.

SHILLONG:

The state Transport Minister Dasakhiat Lamare, on May 25, informed that the repair works of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) is complete and assured the public that the structural integrity of the building is intact.

Dismissing the leakages and cracks developed in the terminus just six weeks after it became operational as “minor issue”, the minister said, “Repairs were made. These were minor issues and everything is rectified and sealed. As for constituting an inquiry, if there is a need for it, we will do so, otherwise it is not necessary.”

Lamare informed that the main reason for the leakage was the blocking of a pipe on the roof of the building, which has been in that state for many months. The minister also assured that the terminus will continue its operations as all the issues have been tackled. He was accompanied by officials from the transport department and Public Works Department (Roads).

The transport minister further informed that he will soon come up with a solution to address the issues of the drivers and passengers commuting to and fro to the terminus. “While the passengers complain about exorbitant taxi fares, the driver too have their own issues. So, soon we will find out the best solution for both,” he said.

Commenting on the demand to allow local tourist taxis to ferry passengers from ISBT and prohibit Assam vehicles in Shillong, Lamare said that the department will explore options as agreeing to the latter will lead to reactions from Assam drivers in Byrnihat.
