TURA:
A three-member gang of cattle lifters from Mankachar area of Assam was thrashed by Garo villagers after they were caught red-handed trying to make away with livestock from a village under Damalgre police station jurisdiction, early in the morning of June 30.
The incident occurred in Balalgre village of South West Garo Hills district at around 4 am.
A villager alerted his neighbours in the village after he found his cattle missing, and a search was initiated. Following the hoof marks left behind by the cows, the search teams came across three men in a large truck stationed in a jungle area, some distance away.
On searching the vehicle, the villagers found the cattle herded inside it.
The villagers thrashed the three men unconscious after tying them up and police were called in. “The accused men were trying to lift cattle to Assam side when they were caught with three cattle heads. We have seized the truck and the cattle and taken the injured accused to hospital for medical treatment,” informed S Ambedkar, SP of South West Garo Hills district.
