Christian leaders forum urge different communities to maintain peace

This came after the state had witnessed a series of agitations following the killing of five Khasi villagers in a firing by Assam police at Mukroh village in West Jaintia Hills District on November 22.

SHILLONG:

The Khasi Jaintia Christian Leaders Forum (KJCLF) on Sunday appealed to all members of different communities and organizations to uphold calm and restrain in their quest for a solution which cannot be obtained through violence and unruly activities.

In a statement, the KJCLF said it shares the sad torment of the bereaved families affected by the recent tragedies at Mukroh village and the agony of the communities and groups who have reacted in diverse ways at different locations in the past few days.

This came after the state had witnessed a series of agitations following the killing of five Khasi villagers in a firing by Assam police at Mukroh village in West Jaintia Hills District on November 22.

It has also noted that this anguish has led to disruptive and violent agitations.

“The KJCLF appeals to all members of different communities and organisations in our state and beyond to uphold calm and restraint in their quest for a solution – which cannot be obtained by violence and unruly activities,” the Forum said.

“Great unease has been caused to normal livelihood activities and especially to students with their studies and exams. Those miscreants who taint and spoil the name and dignity of the movements for justice should be brought to book,” it added.

The KJCLF further called on the state government to show its efficiency and compassion as it follows up on the solutions to bring back normalcy as quickly as possible.
