Christian sect planning to build world’s ‘largest’ church in Mizoram

Releasing the blueprint of the church before media persons at Aizawl Press Club here on Monday, the group leader, Rev Zaichhawna Hlawndo, said the church will be built on an area of  23809.52 square metres, which is 809.52 square metres larger than St Basillica, which is currently the biggest church in the world.

AIZAWL:

A Christian sect in Mizoram is planning to build “world’s largest church” at Thenzawl town in central Mizoram.

Rev Hlawndo claimed that he received instructions from God to build the church for all Zofate (Mizo or Zo kindred tribes across the world), and so it will be called as “Zofate Biak In Pui.”

“Every church in Mizoram belongs to a particular denomination. But, Zofate Biak In Pui will belong to all,” he said.

The church will have 12 doors, and each will be given specific name, as per “divine instructions.”

Rev Hlawndo, formerly a Presbyterian pastor, preached ‘Zoram Thar theology’ which aims to build a New Mizoram, a godly sovereign state.

It was in 2012 while Rev Hlawndo was serving as a pastor in Birmingham, UK that he “received God’s instructions to pave the way for the establishment of his kingdom in Mizoram.”

He floated a party “Zoram Thar” in 2018 and fought the Mizoram Assembly elections, but none of his party’s candidates got elected. He himself contested against then incumbent chief minister Lal Thanhawla at Serchhip constituency and lost too.

Besides being a place for worship, the church will be a huge tourist attraction, Rev Hlawndo said.
