TURA:
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated a state-of-the-art artificial turf and the first-of-its-kind football playground at the cost of Rs 8.10 crores at Chandmari, Tura, on February 26.
Addressing the gathering at the do, he expressed hope of witnessing the rise of football stars in the region.
He emphasised on other initiatives being undertaken to promote games and sports in the region, namely, the construction of an indoor swimming pool within the current financial year and renovation of Tura District Auditorium (TDA) by March.
Sangma further informed that a new convention centre-cum-auditorium worth Rs 150 crore will be constructed in Dakopgre locality, along with beautification of four junctions of Tura – Chandmary, Ringrey, Hawakhana and Araimile – for which an amount of Rs 20 crore will be spent.
Among other development goals, road projects amounting to Rs 13 crore and a state-of-the-art Street Light Project (SLP) have also been taken up under Smart Tura Town Project, including a hunar hub or skill centre at a cost of Rs 280 crore in Badabam, North Tura.
Present on the occasion were Thomas A Sangma, advisor to the chief minister, West Garo Hills DC, Ram Singh and other government officials and dignitaries.
The South Tura MLA Cup Football Tournament 2022, also kicked off post the inauguration.
