SHILLONG:
Shillong with its picturesque view has a lot to offer. People go bonkers over the food, music scene, and nightlife. Every nook, every street, and every lane has a story that is just waiting to be discovered. But if there is anything even more alluring than Shillong’s natural beauty, it is the diverse array of cafes and their unbreakable connection to music. After a long and exhausting day of doing whatever it is they do, the youth have made it a habit to relax and unwind by going cafe hopping in the city. Shillong carved out a place for itself among those seeking out distinctive music and delectable cuisine.
The locations where one can go cafe hopping are listed below.
1. Suburb Cafe
Located in Laitumkhrah, the most cosmopolitan area in the city and if Iewduh (Meghalaya’s largest traditional market) is the number one marketplace, then Laitumkhrah would arguably be the second.
It is currently located in the former Supercare Hospital building, which moved recently to a completely new location. The cafe’s owner hangs beautiful pictures all over and the dim lighting gives off a completely different vibe.
The menu features platters from around the globe, but my personal favourite dish is the bacon and spinach quesadilla.
A game of snooker is always available if you happen to visit it in the evening.
2. The Grub Cafe
Another cafe in Laitumkhrah where many young people spend their free time enjoying a cup of coffee and some curly fries. The cafe has three floors as well as a rooftop area where the so-called “cool people” hang out.
The food is lip-smacking and savoury and they usually serve snacks, my personal favourite is the beef burger sliders! They are also known as mini burgers.
Apart from the food, live music sessions are held there, so if you’re lucky, you might catch a few of Shillong’s famous artistes there.
