TTAADC not working according to constitutional norms: BJP

Rebati Tripura accused the TTAADC administration of not working according to the constitutional norms, and not utilising the funds given to them for various schemes properly.

AGARTALA:

The Bharatiya Janata Janajati Morcha (BJJM), which is the tribal wing of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on October 18 alleged that the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA Motha), which is now Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), is not functioning and working according to constitutional norms.

Addressing a press conference, Lok Sabha MP Rebati Tripura said TIPRA is now ruling the TTAADC, and recently the party and its leader, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, made many promises.

“People living in TTAADC hoped for good days. They (TIPRA) promised to work for the development of tribals, for the overall development of TTAADC, and to bring Greater Tipraland. But it has been 1.5 years since the party came to power and the situation which is prevailing is very dangerous and tense. They have no confidence or trust in the Constitution and they have no mentality to work following the Constitution. They have worked against the Constitution,” Rebati said.

He further informed that on June 1, 2022, Girish Chandra Murmu, Comptroller and Auditor General of India, wrote a letter to the Governor of Tripura, Satyadeo Narayan Arya. In the letter he stated that the TTAADC administration is not working according to the constitutional norms, and the funds given to them for various schemes have not been spent properly. Therefore, the Governor has been asked to take appropriate action.

“In view of this, the Deputy Secretary to the Governor sent a letter to the Chief Secretary of the state. Later the Chief Secretary sent a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of TTAADC on the issue. But even after many years, the TTAADC administration has not taken any action. They do not maintain accounts,” the MP alleged.

Rebati further alleged that the TTAADC administration recently appointed people to fill up various vacant posts and there were massive irregularities in the recruitment of those people.

“On Wednesday Janajati Morcha will send a memorandum to the Governor and to each of the sub-zonal offices highlighting all these complaints,” he said.

BJJM state president Bikas Debbarma and general secretary David Debbarma were present at the press conference.
