UMLING:
Expressing concern about the frequent passage of overloaded trucks through the Umrit road, extending to the Pahammawlein and Umling areas via the Lailad bridge, some members of the public, who wish to remain anonymous, pointed out the structural instability of this bridge. Local authorities have issued warnings against allowing overloaded vehicles, especially trucks, to pass.
Reported instances of overloaded trucks passing through often occur during the night when people are asleep and traffic is minimal. Residents expressed unease about the unclear cargo and weight of these trucks but are primarily troubled by the nighttime operation, suspecting overloading due to the slow-paced passage.
The ongoing issue centres around the nightly passage of trucks through the area, particularly over the Lailad bridge. Concerns are raised about the bridge’s durability, anticipating difficulties for the public in Ribhoi Sepngi if an incident occurs.
Despite satisfaction with the well-maintained road leading to Patharkhmah, residents fear challenges if anything were to happen to the Lailad bridge, which is currently restricted to vehicles carrying up to 9 tons. Observations of trucks passing during the night indicate a likely breach of this weight limit.
To address these concerns, the public urged the District Administration to take action by implementing night-time checks to verify the nature of truckloads and to halt the passage of overloaded trucks during these hours.
