Congress holds meeting to strengthen party ahead of LS Polls

“We have decided to reach out to the people on the failure of the NDA government at all levels, be it economic, employment, price rise and several other issues that have affected the common people of the country,” Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh told media persons.

SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), on July 12, held a meeting to strengthen the party at the grassroot level ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, and to ensure a win over Shillong and seats.

“We have decided to reach out to the people on the failure of the NDA government at all levels, be it economic, employment, price rise and several other issues that have affected the common people of the country,” Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh told media persons.

Lyngdoh pointed out that inflation and unemployment is at an all-time high in the country, and it is time that these issues are taken seriously, and the NDA ousted.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lyngdoh said that the PM does not even have time to visit violence-hit Manipur, and call for peace and harmony in the state.

“It shows the NDA government’s insensitivity towards the North East, where the Prime Minister does not have time to speak on Manipur where hundreds have died, thousands have been displaced,” he said.

Lyngdoh asserted that the NDA government’s aim is to win elections by any means without taking into consideration the human factor and other things.

Asked about the prospect of the Congress winning the Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats, Lyngdoh expressed confidence claiming that Congress is the only party in the country which cares for the welfare of the people, manifested in the results of Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh polls.

“We are confident of retaining the Shillong seat. You look at the results of other state elections where BJP campaigned for months but ultimately lost to Congress,” he said.
