The Congress on February 17 yet again targetted the BJP and the NPP led Meghalaya government for their vicious political agenda, stating that the government has done more damage to the state in the last five years than working on developmental activities.
Speaking to media persons, AICC National Spokesperson Alka Lamba trained guns at the BJP-an alliance partner in the MDA government, and highlighted several issues, including unemployment which have been overlooked by the ruling government.
“The NPP led MDA government and their alliance partner BJP have a lot to answer to the people of Meghalaya on the high rates of unemployment faced by the youth of Meghalaya. Both the NPP and BJP manifesto for 2023 have promised jobs for the youth but what were they both doing during the last five years?” the AICC spokesperson asked.
Stating that there is a great Meghalaya loot going on under the present regime, she highlighted various irregularities and scams, prominent among them being the Assembly Dome Collapse Scam, the Rs 816 Crore Covid Scam, and Saubhagya Scam and others.
Countering BJP’s slogan ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’, Lamba said that while the BJP claims to protect women they have given a ticket to a man accused under POSCO.
“A man who has been known to run a brothel in Meghalaya and had run away to UP where he was caught and jailed. Instead of removing him from the party you have rewarded him with a ticket to contest from the BJP,” Lamba said.
Alleging that Meghalaya is one of the poorest states in the country, she attributed the multidimensional poverty to the BJP and their alliance partners MDA.
Terming BJP’s double engine growth as double trouble for the state (unemployment and inflation), she said that people in Meghalaya want a change and Congress is the only alternative option for the people here.
“People want a change, Congress has come back in Himachal. In my recent visit to Tripura after spending 7 days and attending dozens of meetings people want a change like Himachal. Thanks to the people of Himachal for trusting us and bringing us to power, which will also happen in Meghalaya,” Lamba added.
She further went on the say that Congress has always been with the people of Meghalaya, respecting and protecting their unique identity.
“Congress worked with the people of Meghalaya for the creation of the state to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Meghalaya. We have always respected the uniqueness and diversity of the people of the state. We implemented the sixth schedule for the protection of cultural diversity and security of the people of Meghalaya,” Lamba said.
