SHILLONG:

Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, on April 28, said that Covid numbers in the state are well under control and there are no signs that this will become like a pandemic again.

Briefing media persons after the state reported one case of Covid related death from West Garo Hills (WGH) on April 27, Lyngdoh said that the department will not create unnecessary panic among the public, but urge them to take all necessary precautions.

“As one death has occurred, we thought that we should share this with you. At this point of time, we request for the immediate implementation of all precautionary measures. We request the public at large to kindly adhere to Covid practices so that we may be able to contain the situation and ensure that it does not become a problem,” she said.

Giving details about active cases of Covid in the state, Lyngdoh said, “Covid cases as of today stand at 5 in East Khasi Hills, 10 in West Garo Hills and 2 in West Jaintia Hills, which is still under control.”

Urging the citizens to follow all Covid protocols, she said that the state is prepared for any eventuality, and as and when citizens have any of the symptoms, they must get themselves tested.

She further advised citizens travelling from areas where there is a high positivity rate to take all precautionary measures.
