CPI-M lashes out at Tripura BJP for mis-utilising funds

AGARTALA:

The opposition Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M),  on August 18, lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Tripura government for mis-utilising funds and swaying away from real development.

Addressing media persons at the CPI-M headquarters in Agartala, MLA Ratan Bhowmik alleged that the state is reeling under financial crisis and the BJP is using funds on advertisements and campaigns.

“Not a single person in the state has received social pension. The government announced a DA of 5 per cent for government employees, but they have not received it. More than 50 per cent people didn’t get the benefits of the schemes introduced by the state government, but the party has spent more than Rs 50 lakh on campaigns. They have money for advertising but not for developmental works,” alleged Bhowmik.

He said that CPI-M leaders Bhanulal Saha, Saheed Chowdhury, and Narayan Chowdhury, including him, appraised West District Magistrate Debapriya Bardhan on several issues faced by the public.

“We apprised the DM about MGNREGA workers not receiving their wages on time. We also informed him about the poor road connectivity in Agartala and villages under the West district. The condition of the village roads are pathetic and we demanded the DM take up the issue with the Public Workers Department,” he said.

He further alleged that despite having drinking water connection, houses are not getting the water, there is no electricity and villages lack healthcare facilities.

“Though the response of the DM was positive on these matters, however without the help of the government the problems cannot be resolved. The government has failed to fulfil the promises,” he added.
