AGARTALA:
Training guns on the state government, the Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M) called the chief minister Biplab Kumar-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government “rudderless and directionless”.
Jitendra Chowdhury, CPI-M’s state committee secretary, on January 27, said, “The government is a rudderless government. The older it gets, the more aimless and directionless it becomes. It is evident in the lack of developmental work in the state.”
Chowdhury emphasised on the government’s mismanagement in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, with cases of death, along with positivity rate surging daily.
“We have raised our concerns to the chief minister who has promised to take steps, yet nothing has been done so far,” he added.
Speaking about other issues, he also flagged a few concerning corruption in various departments.
“Every department is corrupt. A corrupt officer is now in charge of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL). Why the government is not removing him from the post is beyond my understanding,” said Chowdhury.
Alleging that the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) had to bribe BJP leaders with Rs 40,000 for houses under the scheme, Chowdhury also castigated the government for confusing people with their ‘vision document’, released before coming to power in the state.
Commenting further on the law-and-order situation in Tripura, Chowdhury added, “In the last 40 days, the state has registered 23 murders, 47 suicides, five rape cases, 11 cases of molestation, and theft cases, among others.”
