Trinamool Congress MLA from Dadenggre, Rupa Marak paid a surprise visit to the fisheries office in Dadenggre civil sub division, West Garo Hills on May 17.
During his visit, Marak was shocked to find the office empty where staff appeared to be absent from work, including even the fishery officer.
It was also found that the office was completely run down with damaged roofs, broken doors and windows and a collapsed toilet.
The watchman of the office, who has been in service for 20 long years, said that electricity and water supply has not been around since he joined service.
Speaking to reporters, the MLA said that it is the duty of every government employee, including the officer, to attend to work since they are getting salaries sourced from taxes.
He said that many citizens of Dadenggre have complained that every time they visit the fishery office for work or seek advice on several fishery schemes, they have to turn back because the office is empty.
