Disaster Management dept likely to come up with action plan: Kyrmen Shylla

He added that agriculture will be covered as well as floods and landslides, adding that with the loss of innocent lives, a strategy was required to preserve and safeguard the people because natural disasters cannot be predicted.

MEGHALAYA:

State Disaster Management Minister Kyrmen Shylla on April 3 said that issues relating to disasters will be discussed in the review meeting which will be held in the presence of chief minister Conrad K Sangma and that the department will likely come up with an action plan to mitigate natural calamities.

“We have witnessed that every year we used to have disasters especially in our state when it comes to flood, landslides and different kinds of calamities, so for this we will plan out this time, and try to find out a new initiative, if possible, in the guidance of the officers and stakeholders,” Shylla said.

He added that agriculture will be covered as well as floods and landslides, adding that with the loss of innocent lives, a strategy was required to preserve and safeguard the people because natural disasters cannot be predicted.

Further, the minister responded that the department is planning to speed up the process of providing relief by issuing a notification to the deputy commissioner of various districts to pay first and then run the paperwork in response to the question of whether the department is addressing the concerns raised by the farmers regarding the compensation or relief of damaged crops not being given on time.
