Excise deptt contributes greatly to state’s revenue: Kyrmen Shylla

Speaking to media persons in the city, Shylla also maintained that revenue of the excise department depends on the sale of liquor, and leakages is one area which becomes a matter of concern at times.

SHILLONG:

Cabinet Minister Kyrmen Shylla, on April 5, said that the excise department as of now is making profit, and it is one department that generates huge revenue for the state.

Speaking to media persons in the city, Shylla also maintained that revenue of the excise department depends on the sale of liquor, and leakages is one area which becomes a matter of concern at times.

Asked if the government follows norms in giving licences, and if distance is being kept in mind while allowing wine shop owners to operate, Shylla said that the government does follow all the rules as put down by the central ministry, and that proper documentation is done before a person is given licence to set up a shop.

“It depends of an area, locality (Dorbar Shnongs), if they give the No Objection Certificate (NOC), we don’t have any problem, and if NOC is not given for the same the licence cannot be given under any circumstances,” he maintained.
