DoNER’s budget for 2022-23 fixed at Rs 2800.00 crore

The North Eastern Council (NEC) was sanctioned an amount of Rs 701.87 crore in 2022-23, witnessing a marginal hike from Rs 584.50 crore in 2021-22.

 Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman allotted Rs 2800 crore for the Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) in the Union Budget for the year 2022-23. The allocation is a marginal increase from its earlier budgetary allocation of Rs 2658.00 crore for the year 2021-22.

The Union Budget for the next fiscal, which was presented in the Parliament by Sitaraman on February 1, said that the operating expenditure for DoNER for 2022-23 has been fixed at Rs 2140.04 crore and capital expenditure at Rs 659.96 crore.

The North Eastern Council (NEC) was sanctioned an amount of Rs 701.87 crore in 2022-23, witnessing a marginal hike from Rs 584.50 crore in 2021-22.

Under the central sector schemes and projects of North East Council (NEC) an amount of Rs 644.42 has been sanctioned, whereas special development projects under NEC were allotted Rs 57.45 crore.

Under the central pool of resources for Northeast and Sikkim, an amount of Rs 1418.79 crore has been sanctioned in 2022-23 compared to Rs 1254.67 crore in 2021-22.

Ironically, the North East Road Projects witnessed a marginal decrease in its present allocation of Rs 496.26 crore from Rs 674.91 crore in 2021-22.

The special development package for Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Territorial Council (KAAC), and Dima Hasao Territorial Council (DHTC) witnessed a hike in its budgetary allocation from Rs 70.75 crore to Rs 105.00 crore (from revised estimate).

While the KAAC has been sanctioned with Rs 40 crore, the DHTC and BTC got Rs 35 crore and Rs 30 crore, respectively.

Significantly, the allocation for Northeastern states from different central ministries have also witnessed a marginal increase from Rs 68440.26 crore (revised estimate 2021-22) to Rs 76040.07 in 2022-23.
