MEGHALAYA:
A day after Umsning MLA Dr Celestine Lyngdoh made a statement on the emergence of a new tribe – the ‘High-Level’, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, on March 28, termed the statement as “incorrect”.
“As a responsible elected member of this House, I never expected such a statement to be made. If only you can produce the documentary proof, nothing like it but just for hearsay and interest of speaking, that is wrong. The government does not at all accept the statement that we need to create one more tribe,” Tynsong said.
On March 27, the Umsning MLA said Meghalaya is witnessing the emergence of a new tribe apart from the three major tribes – Khasi, Garo and Jaintia and named it “High-Level”, a term that has become synonymous with the alleged illegal mining and transportation of coal in the state.
