Education Minister pledges support for teachers’ welfare on Teacher’s Day

Meghalaya Government honoured teachers from across the state on Teachers' Day in recognition of their contributions in shaping the lives of the young minds.

SHILLONG:

Together with the rest of the nation, Meghalaya also celebrated the 62nd Teacher’s Day today, on September 5 at the U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong, in the presence of the Education Minister, Rakkam A. Sangma who attended the program as the Chief guest.

Speaking at the event, the minister remarked that one of the cornerstones that goes into creating a great nation is education. Teachers help students achieve these aims by fostering their intellectual growth and helping them function academically and cognitively to the best of their ability.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to its ongoing efforts in addressing the difficulties that teachers confront, including wage inequity and delayed salary payment. He also emphasized the necessity of teachers developing a variety of cutting-edge teaching strategies for the students’ overall growth.

The Minister additionally congratulated Madhav Singh, a senior science instructor at Alpha English Higher Secondary School in Nongpoh, who has been awarded the National Teacher Award for 2023. On this occasion, the minister also launched a number of Special Projects funded by SSA, including PM e-Vidya Meghalaya, the Adopt a School Campaign, and the website for the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.

Along with the State Teachers’ Award, 36 teachers from all throughout the State received the District Award. The District Award was given to Dr. Careen E.G. Marbaniang, an assistant teacher at Mawkhar Christian HS School in Shillong for the secondary section, Wallamkupar Lynrah, an assistant teacher at Mawsiatkhnam Prebyterian U.P. School (SSA) for the upper primary section, and Dafrit Nongkynrih, an assistant teacher at Tynring Govt. L.P.

Berrilang Nongrum, a special educator at the Mary Rice Centre for Special Education in Laitumkhrah, Shillong, received the Special Award 2023 (Inclusive School). The Best Scoutmaster and Guide Captain of 2023 awards went to Dilip Kumar Mangar of St. Anthony’s High School in Shillong and Miniefer Syiemlieh of KJP Girls’ High School in Shillong, respectively.
