PHULBARI:
A 5-feet long endangered Indian python was rescued from the house of the Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Habibuz Zaman by teams of GHADC forest staffs at Bolarbita village in Chibinang, the plain belt region of Phulbari, on March 22.
According to Wildlife Divisional Forest Officer Rupankar Marak, the python was found in a firewood stack inside the MDC’s house. He clarified that the rescued snake was not kept as a pet, as claimed by a few.
He further stated that the rescued snake is protected in Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Since the Wildlife department does not have any Range Office in the area, the rescue was conducted by the GHADC forest team. The snake was later handed over to the Wildlife department.
