FKJGP collects drinking water from 51 tanks in city for quality check

Speaking to media persons, FKJGP president Dundee Khongsit informed that the water collected were brought to the state government’s Food and Safety Laboratory (FSL) for requisite tests on its quality.

SHILLONG:

Days after residents of various localities complained about the quality of water supplied by the PHE department, Shillong Municipal Board, and other local sources, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), on August 22, collected water samples from 51 tanks in different localities to ascertain the safety of water being supplied.

Speaking to media persons, FKJGP president Dundee Khongsit informed that the water collected were brought to the state government’s Food and Safety Laboratory (FSL) for requisite tests on its quality.

“There are about 1000 of public water tanks that are supplying water to all the households in Shillong, but we managed to collect from only 51 water tanks, and as long as the results are not out, we cannot assume the water to be safe or unsafe, so we will wait for the report from FSL,” Khongsit said.

He said that if the results are negative, the organisation will urge the government to look into the matter and resolve the issue.
