Football field at JN Stadium will meet FIFA standards: CM

Furthermore, Sangma stated that the stadium will have full facilities for athletics and quality will be maintained to ensure that the track and field are top of the line.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on April 19, said once the renovation work at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Polo, Shillong is completed, it will be at par with other stadiums in the country, with the capacity to host both national and international tournaments.

Sangma, who inspected the ongoing upgradation, renovation and improvement of JN Sports Complex, indoor stadium and First Ground at Polo today, said that the football field at the JN Stadium will have a natural turf with new stands being included to enhance the seating capacity.

“We expect close to 30,000 seating capacity and with the entire arrangement and the way the work is being carried out, we are going to meet the FIFA standards; the football field will be at par to host any international tournaments,” Sangma said.

Furthermore, he stated that the stadium will have full facilities for athletics and quality will be maintained to ensure that the track and field are top of the line.

“We expect the stadium to be completed by November end; we are excited. Once this is completed, we should be able to host a large number of events, including international events.
