Framework Agreement key to Naga Peace process: NSCN

Chairman Q Tuccu said that the Oting incident is a “painful incident in the history of Naga political struggle”

DIMAPUR:

The National Socialist Council of Nagalim – Isaac Muivah (NSCN-IM) faction has denounced the economic packages or political packages given by the centre to Nagaland, stating that the centre must first focus on solving the Naga issue.

Highlighting the political significance of the Framework Agreement signed between Government of India and the NSCN on August 3, 2015, chairman Q Tuccu, on January 31, said that the agreement is the “key to an honourable and acceptable solution to the peace process”.

“We put on record to reiterate our stand that the Nagas will abide by the principles of the Framework Agreement. There is no other way and we shall remain guarded to stand firm with it,” he said, on the sidelines of an event held to observe the 43rd NSCN Raising Day at Camp Hebron.

The Nagaland Peace Accord or the Framework Agreement is a peace treaty signed between the Government of India, and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), to end the insurgency in the state of Nagaland in Northeast India.

Tuccu also claimed that the political destiny of Nagas is in the hands of NSCN, and therefore the outfit will not allow themselves to be caught napping. “They should keep in mind that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance,” he added.

Terming the Oting incident, where 13 civilians were gunned down by the security forces on December 4, as a “painful incident in the history of Naga political struggle”, Tuccu criticised the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act saying that it is intended towards using force against the Naga civilians.

“We are with the Oting and Konyak people and together we shall fight for justice,” he said.
