Full-scale emergency drill conducted at Rupsi Airport

This was the first exercise conducted at the Airport, which started operations on May 8 2021, as per the regulatory requirement to carry out a full-scale emergency exercise every two years.

GUWAHATI:

To evaluate the preparedness, capabilities and response of different agencies in the event of an emergency, a mock drill was organised at Rupsi Airport in Dhubri, Assam, on May 12.

The full-scale emergency exercise involved coordination among various agencies, including Rupsi Airport Rescue and Fire Fighters, district administration, police, fire and emergency services and health authorities of Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts.

This was the first exercise conducted at the Airport, which started operations on May 8 2021, as per the regulatory requirement to carry out a full-scale emergency exercise every two years.

Deliberating on the drill, officer-in-charge of the airport, Hemang Arora said, “We are committed to the safety and security of our passengers. This was the first instance when state authorities also took part in the drill. In handling an accident situation, it is recommended to have a response time of 2-3 minutes and Rupsi Rescue and Fire Fighting team is able to achieve the response time in less than two minutes.”

Informing that safety and security are the collective responsibility of airport staff members and state administration, Arora expressed his gratitude to the district administration for their support.

He also informed that different aspects of the drill will be reviewed and corrective action will be taken for the shortcomings.

Kokrajhar deputy commissioner Varnali Deka, Dhubri deputy commissioner Anbamuthan M P, Kokrajhar additional DC SA Bora and Kokrajhar additional SP Lamhao Doungel were some of the officials present during the mock drill.
