Garo body alleges violation of job reservation in Urban dept

In a letter to E Kharmalki, IAS, who is the director of the Urban Affairs department, ACHIK accused him of violating the state quota by the appointments despite 13 Garo candidates shortlisted and sent to the department for the appointments.

TURA:

Garo pressure group, the A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima  (ACHIK) has accused the state director for Urban Affairs of violating the Meghalaya Job Reservation Policy by appointing non-Garos in the category of the Garo tribe for a recent recruitment process in the department.

In a letter to E Kharmalki, IAS, who is the director of the Urban Affairs department, ACHIK accused him of violating the state quota by the appointments despite 13 Garo candidates shortlisted and sent to the department for the appointments.

The order of the Urban Affairs department appointing the non-Garo candidates in the quota was allegedly given on April 24 even though the 13 Garo candidates names were forwarded to the department for appointment on March 14.

“We demand immediate action to repeal the appointments for breaking the law as well as contempt of court for violating court orders and policy of the state on the state job reservation policy,” stated the organisation.

The organisation is threatening to drag the government to court for depriving the Garo community of its share in the quota of recruitments, and more so since the Meghalaya High Court has put the state government in the dock over failure to implement the roster system in recruitments since the time of the job reservation policy implementation.
