TURA:
With an aim to aid rural homestay owners in expanding rural tourism and sustainable accommodations, a three day Homestay Operations and Management training has begun in Tura from May 2.
The training is being imparted by the renowned Global Himalayan Expedition in collaboration with the West Garo Hills district administration.
As many as sixteen Homestay owners from various Garo villages in the region have enrolled for this 3 day training that will cover aspects of rural tourism & sustainable accommodations.
Speaking to reporters, Global Himalayan Expedition member and mountaineer Shri Anupahok gave an insight into the training.
He said that as part of the training, his organization will train and upgrade the homestay owner, provide practical knowledge and level them to grow in their business and to bring more tourism into the region.
“When we go to remote areas it’s very hard to create local handicraft and other items which tourists yearn to take back with them. So, the first step is to establish infrastructure in the region and the next step is to establish a homestay to bring tourism to this region that will contribute to the local economy by providing income generation opportunities to the locals in the area,” said Anupahok.
Also giving his experience as a successful homestay provider, Darmen G Momin who operates his very own Do.patchi homestay on the foothills of Nokrek national biosphere reserve said that this training is very helpful to all of them as it will help provide training in bringing renewable development through tourism in the area.
