Govt against uranium mining: Prestone

Speaking to the media in Rambrai, he said that the stance of the government is no to uranium mining adding that it depends on the willingness of the land owners as the land belongs to them.

Nongstoin:

Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said that the state government is against uranium mining.

Speaking to the media in Rambrai, he said that the stance of the government is no to uranium mining adding that it depends on the willingness of the land owners as the land belongs to them.

He was reacting to Union Minister Jitendra Singh’s statement in the Lok Sabha that the Centre has not abandoned the idea and will continue with its attempt to mine uranium from Domiasiat-Mawthabah area in South West Khasi Hills.

Tynsong also reminded that the Supreme Court in its 2019 order has reconfirmed that ownership of land both surface and underneath belongs to the land owners.
